A 40 bed infirmary built in 1908 was originally used for the workhouses in the Plympton area. In 1912 it was officially known as the Plympton St Mary poor Law Institution then after 1929 became the Plympton Public Assistance Institution. After the Inaugeration of the NHS in 1948 it became Underwood House Hospital and was renamed Plympton Hospital in 1958. I was then closed in 2012 and the site was put up for sale.
